Privacy Policy
The short version: your time tracking data lives on your iPhone. You don't need an account. If you sign in, completed sessions are backed up to your account. StartWatch has no ads, does not track you, and does not sell your data.
Who we are
StartWatch is an iPhone app made by Duncan Fondren. Questions about this policy can be sent to duncanfondren@icloud.com.
Data stored on your iPhone
StartWatch stores the following on your device:
- Your categories, including names and colors
- Your tracked sessions, including category, start time, and end time
- The timer that is currently running
- Daily notes
- Your app settings
This data stays on your iPhone unless you turn on cloud backup or export it yourself. Daily notes are never uploaded.
Sign in with Apple
Signing in is optional. If you sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an account identifier and, depending on what you choose to share, your email address and name. Your email may be a private relay address from Apple. We use this only to create your account and connect it to your backup.
Cloud backup
Backup only runs while you are signed in. When it runs, completed sessions from previous days and the category details needed to read them are stored in your account. The timer that is currently running and your daily notes are not uploaded.
Backups are stored with Supabase, our database provider, and sent over encrypted connections. Your backup is only used to restore your own data.
Screen Time
Screen Time features are optional. They use Apple's Screen Time frameworks, which keep app usage data on your iPhone. The apps you select are handled by iOS, and StartWatch never uploads your Screen Time data.
Lock Screen and notifications
The Lock Screen Live Activity, reminders, and alerts run on your iPhone using information already in the app.
Export and import
When you export, StartWatch creates a file and you decide where it goes. Imports are only added after you review and confirm them.
What we don't do
- No ads
- No third-party analytics or tracking
- No selling or renting your data
- No sharing your data with anyone except the service providers needed to run sign-in and backup
Keeping and deleting your data
Your cloud backup is kept until you delete your account. To delete it, open StartWatch Settings and tap Delete Account. This deletes your account and your cloud backup.
Signing out or deleting your account does not erase data on your iPhone. To remove it, delete StartWatch from your iPhone.
Children
StartWatch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
